Give me a girlfriends weekend at the spa, please!

My favorite way to treat myself at home is to turn on relaxing music, pour myself a bath, light some candles and soak my stress away. Somedays there just simply isn’t enough time for even that kind of indulgence, so I do have some quicker ways to treat myself that make me feel cared for and (I’ll be honest) feel a little prettier when I am done.

I know that we all pack so much into our days! So, if the most you can fit in is the 60 seconds of “me time” it will take to mix these recipes together, let’s start there. Take the minute to make a face mask then use the 20 minutes it sits to vacuum and start a load of laundry. You might not feel less stressed at the end, but softer skin will at least make you smile.

Below are a handful of super easy facial masks that will make your skin feel great. They also smell awesome and the essential oils I add in work wonders.

*Yes, these all use honey. I really love the stuff but totally get that many vegans won’t touch it. I support those of you in your conviction! I promise. Just replace with half an avocado or mix with cooked oatmeal instead.

Nourishing Honey and Oatmeal Facial Mask

Mix one tablespoon of honey, 2 tablespoons of cooked oatmeal and a few drops of almond oil. Apply to face and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Use a warm washcloth to wipe off.

Balancing Honey and Lavender

Mix one tablespoon of honey (lots of antioxidants for the skin) with 2-3 drops of Lavender essential oil. Apply to face and let sit for 15-20 minutes then use a warm washcloth to wipe off.

Lavender essential oil widely used and accepted for its calming qualities. Adding a few drops to a diffuser will help relax your mood. It can even help you sleep! Diffuse in the evenings before bedtime, add a few drops to water in a spray bottle and lightly spray your the pillows then add a drop to the soles of your feet to help you rest deeply and comfortably.

Homemade facial masks with honey, oats, lavender and other goodness!

Radiant Honey and Lemon Facial Mask

Mix one tablespoon of honey with 2-3 drops of Lemon essential oil. Apply to face and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Use a warm washcloth to wipe off. Be careful to avoid direct sun exposure within 24 hours of using the mask, as Lemon oil is photosensitive to the sun.

Lemon essential oil has multiple uses! As well as being a great mask you can also mix with baking soda and honey for a natural acne free face wash.

According to Alva’s Ayurveda Medical College assistant professor Dr. J.V. Hebbar, the benefits of lemon include:

  • Cleansing and purification
  • Oral health and remedy for halitosis (bad breath)
  • Digestion
  • Thirst quencher
  • Remedy for abdominal colic pain
  • Cough relief
  • Calms stomach and relieves nausea
  • Prevents malabsorption
  • Improves digestion
  • Nourishes the skin
  • Promotes Weight loss

Clarifying Honey and Patchouli Facial Mask

Mix one tablespoon of honey with 2-3 drops of Patchouli essential oil. Apply to face and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Use a warm washcloth to wipe off.

Patchouli has long been used in skin care for its ability to help alleviate such issues as acne-prone conditions, eczema, inflammation, and cracked, chapped, irritated skin. It is often found in anti-aging skin care for its cell-rejuvenating properties and its ability to lessen the look of scars. Patchouli’s anti-fungal properties make it useful in treating athlete’s foot, and for hair it helps alleviate signs of dandruff and balance oiliness.

One more tip: I recently have started using almond oil as my night cream. It only takes a few drops to cover my face (focus on the eye area! Almond oil is supposed to work wonders on crows feet and it is mild enough not to irritate the sensitive eye area. It even removes makeup!) and down my neck. In a few moments it fully absorbs in and immediately my skin feels moisturized. Definitely add this step in after you give yourself one of the treatments above for the final step in your at home spa treatment.
